ISS Support For Families
At ISS we recognise that parents and guardians are their child’s strongest and most devoted advocates. We know that the best outcomes occur through collaboration between the parent/guardian, the teacher and the student. With that in mind, we want our parents and guardians to know what questions they should ask their child’s teacher, Learning Support Teacher or Principal to get a sense of their child’s experience at school and what questions can lead into good discussions and follow-through at home. Below are some relevant questions.

Please be in touch with your child's teacher and Learning Support Teacher if there is anything we need to know about your child achieving their potential. Learning Support Teacher
- What strategies are you using with my child? How effective are they? How does my child respond to the strategies? Are you in any classes with my child and if yes, what have you observed? Can you share some anecdotal notes with me?
- How often do you meet with my child?
- What are my child’s current strengths and challenges?
- Does the school offer any programmes that can support my child’s current challenges or strengths?
- How can I support my child at home?
Classroom Teacher
- What role does my child take when he/she works in a group?
- What does my child write about during Daily 5? What does he/she often read?
- What types of topics or subjects does my child get excited about?
- How have you differentiated for my child’s way of learning?
- How does my child interact with other students?
- What does my child like to discuss with his peers?
- What does my child like to do during recess?
Administrators
- What have you noticed about my child in class or at recess?
- Who do you see my child playing with?
- How are the teachers supporting my child in the classroom?
- How frequently do you meet with the Learning Support Team?
- What ECA’s/programmes do you recommend for my child?
- Do you recommend any in-school role models for my child?
